This year there are Pre-register and Free Form Competitions throughout the OzJam event. 

And there is a category for everyone! Decorators, Twisters and Entertainers all have a chance to compete in the following categories.

COMPETITION REGISTRATION

 

  • Pre-registration required via Entry Form on OzJam 2020 website. 

  • All entry forms must be submitted by Friday, 8 August 2020. 

  • Check-in is on Sunday, 16 August 2020 between 5pm and 7pm with Competition Marshall, Amanda. 

  • The Check-In desk will be next to Registration desk.

DECOR COMPETITION RULES

  • All competitors must be fully registered OzJam 2020 attendees

  • Only one entry per person per competition.

  • A maximum of 10 Entries per category. A minimum of 5 Entries per category for each category to go ahead.

  • Entries MUST be made within the Venue & presented to the Competitions Display Area by the cut-off time for each category.

  • Only Qualatex and NorthStar Balloons may be used – you cannot use any other brand of balloons.

  • Entries MUST be predominantly made of Balloons.

  • Your Entry MUST be your own design, Qualatex Australia will not be liable for any design incorrectly credited.

  • ALL items will be photographed and can be used by Qualatex in any manner required - credit to the designer will be given.

  • There will be three (3) judges on the major competitions and feedback will be provided after the event, the judge’s decision is final on all competition categories.

  • Size guidelines are maximum dimensions.

  • All Delivery Sculpture / Table Centrepiece designs MUST be easily transportable / movable.

  • All competitors are to provide their own stock for the major competitions

  • And last but certainly not least, the most important rule of all - Enjoy yourself & have fun!!!

  • All competition pieces must be handed in by 3pm on Monday, 17 August 2020

HATS & HAIRBANDS COMPETItiON

The hats and headbands competition will be the first competition that kicks off OzJam 2020!

COMPETITION REGISTRATION

 

  • Each competitor MUST submit an entry form PRIOR to the convention starting. 

  • Deadline for entries is 6 August, but if it is not full, further entries will be allowed.

  • A total of 20 competitors maximum will be allowed.

  • Late entries will be considered when the Jam room opens at 5pm on Sunday, 16 August 2020.

  • We suggest you submit your entry when you register so you don't miss out

  • Only fully registered attendees can enter this competition.

COMPETITION RULES

  • You must bring all of the materials you need to make your own creation. All balloons used MUST be Qualatex brand. If you have any pop's or breakages, you will be permitted to ask an official to get you another balloon from the jam stock to complete your piece.

  • No pre-inflation or any pre-made parts are allowed.  All entrants will construct their headpiece in the Jam room.

  • Competitors can use lights, feathers, bling or anything else you wish to jazz up your creation. Markers are also allowed and must be supplied by the competitor.

  • There is no size limit to this competition, however, the sculpture must comfortably fit on your head without falling off during the parade.

  • There is no theme for this competition so let your imagination run wild.

  • You will have 30 minutes to complete your hat or hairband piece. Each entry must be made in the Jam Room from 6:10 pm – 6:40pm. There will be tables set up for competitors to work and other OzJam attendees can view the entries being made.

  • No outside help from attendees or anyone viewing is allowed. If any of the judges see this, you will be automatically disqualified.

  • At the completion of the competition, all competitors MUST stay in the judging area and be marshalled for the start of the parade.

  • You must wear your own entry in the hats and hairbands parade, commencing at 7pm. This will kick off the opening ceremonies.

  • People's choice votes will also be available after the parade has ended.

  • People's Choice Judging will close at 9pm on the same night. If competitors wish to keep their hats, they can collect them at that point.  Any left after 9.30pm will be discarded.

COSTUME COMPETItiON

The costume competition will be the final and most extravagant competition of OzJam 2020! The theme for the costume is “Ultimate Party”.  Be creative.  Go crazy.

It will be held on Tuesday, 18 August at 6:30pm, with the parade kicking off the Ultimate Party Gala!

COMPETITION RULES

  • All competitors are responsible for finding their own models, and models must be over 18.

  • At least 75% of the costume must be made of Qualatex balloons.

  • Face paint, and other accessories are allowed, however will not be taken into consideration when being judged.

  • All designs must be appropriate for all audiences. No birthday suits please!

  • All competitors to provide a two minute clip of music they wish to be played while their model walks the catwalk. If no music is provided, officials will choose party music at random.

  • All competitors must have their costume and model in Mascot A Ballroom at 5:30pm and the entries must be completed in this room. The competition judges will be observing for the final 30 minutes, and all entries must be finished at 6pm sharp.

  • All entries will be prejudged in the last 30 minutes before the competition ends and briefly in the marshalling area, before the final component of judging is completed when the model walks down the catwalk.

  • People's Choice Judging will be available up to 30 minutes after conclusion of the catwalk presentation.

qfactor talent COMPETItiON

Do you have a really great act that you would love to perform? Do you have a hidden talent that you are just waiting to showcase? Well Q Factor is the competition for you!

COMPETITION REGISTRATION

 

  • Each competitor MUST submit an entry form two weeks PRIOR to the convention starting. No entries will be accepted after 3 August 2020.

  • Only fully registered attendees can enter this competition.

  • Each act MUST submit a written description of what their act entails and this must be approved by officials before your entry is accepted. You will be notified if we have any questions for you. The MC will also use this to introduce your act. 

  • The number of acts will be capped at 10 entries so get in quick!

In the event of a tie, the judges will reconvene to break the tie.

 

The winners will be announced at the Ultimate Party on the last night of the convention.

MARKING CRITERIA

  • There will be 4 judges on the judging panel. They will be seated in front of the stage.

  • The judges will score each act on a 50 point scale:

  • Presentation – up to 20 points

  • Technical Skills – up to 10 points

  • Originality – up to 10 points

  • Use of balloons – up to 10 points

  • Bonus points – up to 10 bonus points can be awarded by each judge for something that is exceptional or amazing!

COMPETITION RULES

  • Each act MUST NOT EXCEED 7 MINUTES. This does not include two minutes allocated for setup and pack up of your act.

  • At 6 minutes, a bell will be rung to signal the act they have 1 minute remaining. 

  • Each act MUST submit a written description of what their 7 minute act entails and this must be approved. At 7 minutes and one second, the bell will be rung again and the act will be penalised for going overtime.  Marion Mitchell will be the timekeeper and her decision is final.

  • You may enter a team of people as part of a single act.

  • All acts must meet Kelly Virgona at the side of the stage (located in the foyer area) at 9pm on Monday night, to quickly run through order of acts and a tech rehearsal. If you cannot make this, you will not be able to perform in the show.

  • Q Factor will commence at 9:30pm and all acts will be waiting backstage to be introduced.

  • A sound system with 1 x hand held microphone and 1 x lavalier microphone will be supplied.

  • There will also be a USB player for music or backing tracks

  • Please bring your music to the tech rehearsal to make sure it all works.

  • You will be responsible for any additional equipment.

  • Competitors will perform on a raised stage with the audience in front of you.

  • We encourage your act to include at least one balloon (or balloons), however, it is not a deal breaker. Please be aware, if you choose to enter and do not showcase any balloons, you will be awarded zero points for the “use of balloons” judging criteria.​

  • The audience will be eligible to cast one vote for People's Choice Award, and this will be voted on up to one hour after the Q Factor concludes.
